GET TO KNOW AUDREY SACCONE

Audrey Saccone is the founder of Audrey Digital, which serves the online business community through full-service marketing. She also offers a launch membership for emerging business owners, called Launch BFF. Audrey takes the tried-and-true methods she's learned from working with the best, coupled with a healthy dose of resourcefulness, to help established entrepreneurs find success with tools and strategies that work and are the most authentic to them.

Audrey is an experienced marketer and launch strategist with multiple seven and eight-figure launches under her belt. After spending five-and-a-half years in the non-profit sector, she moved into the online marketing space, where she's worked for major players like Marie Forleo and Sophia Amoruso.

THE BEST KEPT SECRET

Audrey Saccone knew the results she could produce, but the problem was that nobody knew her name. She was the best-kept secret in her industry. As she launched her own company, she realized that speaking was going to fast-track her know, like, and trust factor. While her referral rate was high and her results are unmatched, she needed her name in more rooms, which is what lead her to reach out to me.

AN UNCONVENTIONAL JOURNEY

With a background in music and the music business, Audrey started her career in non-profit arts. She loved it. She did marketing, coding, events, webinars, you name it and she did it. After some time, she felt burned out from working so hard with very little pay, so she began looking for new opportunities.

Her strategy was to work with a recruiter to find an executive assistant position, but she ended up not having much luck. One day, she was scrolling Instagram and came across a story on Marie Forleo’s account sharing that they were looking for an executive assistant. Audrey applied and got an interview, which went well. While she didn’t get the executive assistant gig, they asked if she would be interested in a marketing position.

She accepted the job offer and left her full-time job with benefits to become a part-time contractor with no benefits. After working with Marie, she realized there was a lot of potential for good in the industry.

HER VARIOUS ROLES

Audrey was initially hired to help with the Pinterest strategy. Eventually, she was asked to be an extra set of hands for a webinar. After the event, Audrey reached out and asked if she could do more in this space since she had a lot of experience with live streaming. With that, her part-time contractor role became a full-time, with benefits, marketing role where she was involved in the execution. She was able to interact with almost every department, which gave her an incredible view of how the business worked. This really set her up for success.

MOVING ON

One day, Audrey received a cold message from Sophia Amoruso asking her to set up an appointment with her. She talked to Sophia the same day and had a job offer by the end of the week. She worked with Sophia to launch a business class, and they scaled it very quickly to a big business. At this point, Audrey realized she knew a lot more about this than she thought she did and that she didn’t need to wait any longer but could start her own business and help more people.

STARTING HER OWN COMPANY

Audrey had worked very hard for 10 years and she was tired. She decided that she would work two days per week, create a VIP day, and consult a little on the side, and that’s what she did. However, she quickly got bored and decided that working so little was not the right fit for her and that she thrived on working more.

Finally, she decided that she needed to do something that was more consistent and so she started saying yes to all of the requests she was getting for work. She knew that she didn’t want to do it by herself, so she set up an agency style of business where she subbed out different areas of expertise because her customers wanted the full package.

GROWING PAINS

Audrey had dealt with a lot of growing pains throughout her career. She was used to the messy stages and was used to going with the flow. Today, she is doing more work in her business than she ever has, but she’s also having more fun in her business than she ever has. She enjoys nurturing new team members and watching them grow.

BECOMING THE GO-TO IN THE INDUSTRY

Her ideal clients are celebrities, influencers, and business personalities, people who cannot do it wrong and it has to be right the first time. Audrey loves working with these people because they have fun and innovative projects and because she likes working with people who can make a significant impact and have the money and the audience to do it.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

She spent plenty of time as an employee in service to what’s best for the companies she was working for. She had always been behind the scenes and helped the companies she worked for become successful. She realized that she needed to make herself more visible, which is why she reached out to me. Audrey has always been a performer and enjoys being in front of people. She wanted to take this skill and gift and use it to propel the business forward and to educate people.

GETTING REFERRALS

Friend, referrals don’t just come from people you’ve worked with. They may have heard you speak, come to your mastermind, etc. No person is too small to connect with. You never know who may know somebody who works for somebody else. It’s important to be open to all opportunities.

Well, if that's how you're feeling, you're not alone. And today, I want to show you how speaking might just be the secret to your breakthrough here.

Welcome back to another episode of The speak to scale podcast where we're helping business owners just like you grow and scale their companies by speaking on stages, podcasts, webinars, and more. I'm your host, Jessica Rasdall. And I'm so grateful that you're tuning in today.

I know there are so many resources you could be plugging into. And I appreciate you tuning in here each and every week. Now today, we are chatting with my friend Audrey, who's an experienced marketer and launch strategist with multiple seven and eight figure launches under her belt. But those launches are for her clients, major players in the online marketing space, like Marie Forleo, and Sophia Amoruso. But when Audrey decided to go out on her own, and launch her own company where she could support businesses, she knew that her work was good, not good, great. She knew the results that she could produce. But nobody knew her name.

Audrey was the best kept secret in her industry. And as she launched her own company, she realized that speaking, you know, showing up on Instagram Stories, creating video content, doing guest presentations and other people's communities was going to be the thing to fast track her know like and trust and essentially build street credibility in her industry. Her referral rate is high and her results are unmatched. But she needed her name in more rooms.

So in today's episode, she's going to share what this journey has been like, at the very start of her business to create such success in a short timeframe. If you my friend are feeling like you are your industry's best kept secret, grab a pen, because Audrey has got some tips for you. Okay, so for our listeners who are just meeting you for the first time, Audrey, give us a quick little intro of who you are and what you do.

I'm Audrey, I am the founder of Adri digital. We are a launch and marketing strategy and execution firm. So we work with seven and eight figure entrepreneurs who have courses and memberships to launch their products on a launch model. And we we do all of it. So we write the emails, we design the sales page, we build it, we will write webinars, and we're going to be err on the ground support. So that's a little bit about what we do in a nutshell.

I love it. And you have a very different journey to where you are today than most entrepreneurs. So give us a little bit of the background. How did you get into the launch space to get to a place where you're working with such successful business owners and you are not just, you know, teaching or give it but you are able to take the reins and run this launch.

It's a great story. And I'm glad you asked. I started my career in the nonprofit arts my degree and my background are in music and music business. And I you know, I did that for a while and I loved it. And I was at a small business. I did everything from marketing to front end coding to events to webinars, you know, you name it. I did it. It's like the nonprofit, being a lifestyle. You're doing a little bit of everything for like no money. And I burnt out and was looking for new opportunities. And I had read an interview about Kim Kardashian CEO and how she had been her executive assistant and was now like running the show for one of her businesses. And I was like that's what I want to do. Not necessarily for Kim Kardashian, but it is I see the path.

Yeah, like I knew I was a good operator. I liked really running things if that was what I was interested in. So I was like, I need to get an executive assistant job for the right person. So I worked with the recruiter, and no one wanted to hire me because all I had was marketing experience. And fun fact, most CEOs if especially like really big high powered ones, if they're going to hire somebody in their mid In 20, oh used to be an executive assistant, they want somebody who's been an executive assistant, they don't want somebody who's starting from scratch. So fine. I still kept applying for jobs. And I had jury duty one day, I was scrolling through Instagram waiting for my name to be called. Thank goodness, it wasn't. And I see this Instagram story. I'm Marie Forleo Instagram account. And I followed Marie, I didn't. I wasn't like a super fan or anything. But you know, she was on my list of people. I didn't know what Marie I was in the nonprofit space.

You know, I don't even know how I followed her. But I she just happened to be on my list of people I followed. And there was a story from her VP of Business ops say, we're looking for an executive assistant for Marie, the applications up for 24 hours, it's a Google forum swipe up to apply. I was like, I don't have anything to lose, like, I'm just sitting in a room, why not apply? So I applied. And I got an interview. And it went well. And after my interview, that same VP emailed me to hey, you know, can you chat? And I said, Sure. We got on the phone. And she said, you know, we really liked you. We think you're really smart.

We don't think you're a great executive assistant, but you clearly have a lot of marketing experience, you know, is that something you're interested in? I could use some more marketing support on the team, probably not right now. But you know, in the future, I want to know if I should keep you in the rotation. And I said, Ah, you know, so we talked for about 30 minutes, and we batted some ideas back and forth. And by the end of that, she said, Okay, I know, I said, I wasn't hiring, but I want to hire you like, When can you start? I was like, oh, okay, um, it was probably the first or second week of December, I was like, I could probably start the first week of January, I have to like, you know, I'd have to receive an offer from you and sign in, but I'll put in my notice, and I'll leave. And I left my full time job with benefits, which gave my mom a massive heart attack to go to a part time contractor role. I had been doing a lot of freelancing on the side.

So I had enough supplemental income to make it work. But I started working for her in January, which for those of you who follow Marie, know that she, at least in 2018, when I started working for her, that's a month before B School launches. So I started my first remote job working for this like, massive personality in this space, which again, I didn't really understand the level of impact she had. And right before the school lunch, I was like, What is this job I just took, and it was wild. I remember calling my mom back several times, but one time in particular, and saying I've seen more impact that this business has in three months, than I saw a nonprofit in five years. And that to me was like this industry is doing something different, do something really cool. And there's a lot of potential for good, you know, if you do it in the right way. And that's what brought me here.

So cool. So when you were working now, this new role, and you've you move into this business space unexpectedly. What What were you working on? What was your role there? How did you gain all of your genius?

So I was initially hired to help with Pinterest strategy, which I have basically no experience in besides the fact that, you know, my, the woman who hired me said, We just bought Jenna Kutcher, his course and we're trying to figure it out. And I said, I just bought Jenner cutters course, here are all the things that like that. I'm pretty sure that's what got me the job is that I had taken it and was able to spit back verbatim like things that Jenna said about like, Pinterest is a search engine. And you know, you should really try this approach and do this, that and the other thing. And so I remember that first month, just sitting on my couch, watching Harry Potter and just making pins for back episodes of Marie TV. And that's how I really got to learn the catalog. And I got pulled into a meeting for a webinar for B School. The first time they were doing webinars. And they pulled me in just because I lived in New York and they were like, we'll just be a really good extra set of hands to have some in this meeting and I'm listening and after I call my boss and he said hey, I ran a bunch of live stream events before in my last role like that was just something we did a lot of I was very involved.

Is there a way I can be more support besides just being an extra set of hands, and she said, Oh my God, yes, because nobody on the team has done this before. And we're just figuring it out. Which by the way, lets all of you know, everyone that you think is like really big and knows what they're doing. When they do new things, they are still figuring it out to like they bring in experts to help them and you know, someone on their team is just figuring it out. So don't think that, you know, these people you idolize or put on a pedestal, know how to do everything because they don't, but they will invest to get it right the first time because there as you know, it's just a bigger risk for them. So I helped put on that webinar and just started kind of taking on these slowly these other responsibilities of I've done this before I've done this before. And slowly this part time contractor role making pins became this full blown full time with benefits marketing operations role, where I was very involved in execution, I wasn't the primary person driving strategy by any means. But I was part of the conversation, in my opinion was heard, which I really appreciated. And, you know, just I got to as a marketing ops person, which I feel is a role that a lot of people don't know much about, you're really the person doing the more technical pieces of marketing. So I was really involved in all the automations, making sure all the tech work together, you know, and helping to really put this marketing strategy to life so that what people see happens, and because of that, I got to interact with pretty much every department, which gave me an incredible view on how the business works. You know, I met with the head of customer service every week. And I would ask her things like, Well, how do you handle this customer issue? Or what are you know, what slowing you down? How can we make better workflows for you? Like, what are things that would make your team's life better? And by asking questions like that, you know, you do understand how the business runs, and you also get to help make things better. And it really set me up for success in a way that I didn't. It wasn't my intention, it just happened that way. But for when I went to go work for Sofia.

So when you decided to? So you kind of just nodded to that right? Have you worked for another massive figure in this space? what point did you decide or like see the potential for you to not necessarily work for somebody else, but still be able to use your skill set and make this impact in this space.

So after I worked for arbery, as I started to apply, I went to work for actually what's worked for a tech startup for a little while I've left the industry. But then I got a LinkedIn message from Sophia and Marissa saying, hey, I want to launch an online course I see you've done that before. I would love to talk to you about it. Just hear about your experience. To which I replied, Are you a real person? Because I think amazing, I thought what I was like, There's no way this like this person whose book I've read, and like has built these massive business is called like DMing.

And I was like sitting out was like, I woke up to this on a Saturday morning. And I was at the hair salon getting my hair done messaging back. And she said, No, it's really me. Here's my Zoom link, like my Calendly like book a time with me. And I was like, okay, so booked a time with her that afternoon. Oh, by the way, if I can like just drop a very quick nugget for everyone listening. If you want to work with somebody, and like they reached out to you that just book their next time. If you're afraid you can make it work book with them right away, like people at this scale. And this level move can move very fast, because they want a solution right now. So if you don't get back to them for a week, they have already found somebody else and you are not reliable to them. And they have moved on. So I talked to her that day. And you know, just basically had a job offer by the end of the week. And we launched business class. I mean, I started with her in July, we launched business class in September, we scaled up very quickly to this big business. And by the end of that I was like, Oh, I know a lot more about this than I thought I did and consulting or doing my own thing. Like I always see myself much more as an entrepreneur and an entrepreneur and I have never had aspirations of creating my own business. Although, now that I have everyone in my life has said yeah, we've been waiting for you I do this for years. But, you know, when I kind of had, that when I realized that I knew more than I thought I did, I was like I could do this. Now I don't have to wait 10 more years, and have the realization that I can have so much more impact by not being in house and working with multiple people to help them scale and help them grow than just helping one person who, who's amazing and who I still work with, you know, but now I get to work with, you know, Sophia and other clients who are incredible, you know, and just get to see this ripple effect happen, which I've been obsessed with your journey, and I love seeing the impact that you're making for so many different types of business owners, which is so cool, right? You're not just working with in one space was one company, you're getting to just share your knowledge with the world.

So when you made the leap, which wasn't that long ago, and you, you know, started your own company, what did you think that was going to look like? What did you think archery would be doing?

I was really tired. When I started my business, like I've worked really hard for 10 years. And I've always been the girl working late nights, working weekends, I've worked through vacations, like I enjoy working. And I honestly sometimes would rather work than do other things. It just brings me a lot of fulfillment. But I was tired, I was like, I'm gonna create a VIP day, I'm gonna work two days a week, I'm gonna consult a little bit on the side. And I did that I made good money pretty quickly. And I was so bored. Like, that was just not. I mean, there were a couple of things. But that was one of them is that working that little was not the right fit for me personally. And it's great if it is right for you, just in the same way that by I like to work 4050 hours or more, sometimes a lot more than that a week. And that brings me joy. That's not right for some other people as well.

So that was part of it. And another part of it was I was doing this consulting work. And first of all, it was really inconsistent, like you're constantly chasing business when you're doing VIP days when you're doing one off consulting like that. And that, for me, as somebody who really likes structure and order that was really, really stressful for me. And I knew I had value and expertise to offer but like constantly feeling the stress and anxiety, it was just like, well, it was terrible. And people have been asking me every time I got off of a console, you know? Okay, so can you just do it for me? And I said no. And I said no, and didn't want to go back to doing that. And finally, I kind of I looked at my p&l and said, Yeah, I need to do something that's more consistent. And I'm gonna start saying yes. And I started saying yes. And didn't want to do it by myself.

So I am going to just create the segue for you, Jessica, and put me into this big air quotes, agencies style of business, or at least that we're getting to where I subbed out a lot of different areas of expertise, because people who came to me, they wanted the full package, you know, they didn't want just copy, they don't want just the sales page, they want all of it. And while I've done all of it, and can do all of it, let's say 70%. Well, by raising my prices, and finding really incredible partners to work with, I can have an amazing sales page I have that written and designed by us and built by us and emails, and all of those things that we handle as a team so that the business owner can come to us and say, This is what I want, and we just do it all.

I love it. Thank you for sharing the like, real thoughts behind the scenes of all that because I think so often when somebody is has been the doer and is exhausted, right, we think exactly what you said of like, Oh, I'm just gonna do VIP days or I'm just gonna do coaching or consulting or I'll just make this course I'll just do this thing because I'm tired and for those of us who are, you know, find fulfilment in seeing the thing through and knowing the impact we made That's just not enough, it's not enough, we need to know that we played a role in the outcome. And when you're just touching a tiny piece of it, you can't see that. And I love that you quickly found a way to be able to make that impact with the businesses to make that sustainable, predictable income for yourself. But do it in a way that didn't run yourself ragged. And I think people don't think about agencies in that way of, it's not about getting out of your business, it's not about handing off the work, it's driving the ship that's getting the result. And you're doing that so well.

Well, and no one should get into an agency style of business because they want to do less work, because running a lot of work, because not my team is growing right now. And as I was boxing you about this, the other day is I've hopefully by the time you're listening to this, but things are, you know, a little less hard than they are right now. But, you know, we're in the stage of hiring where things get, as I like to say, for me, personally, they're getting worse before they get better. You know, before I hired people, I was doing a lot myself. And now I'm still doing a lot myself, while training people to do those things. For me, creating scopes on how to do that, giving them feedback throughout the process, giving edits, you know, reworking it, sometimes redoing entire things, not because they did a poor job, but because I didn't give them good instructions. So now this thing that could have taken me 10 minutes has taken me like two hours because I didn't do a good job training somebody. And you know that that's part of growing pains of any business, but the growing pains are so real. And I dealt with a lot of them. In my career very fortunately, every business I've joined has either been at as either been new or been at this similar point of like growth.

So I'm used to this very messy stage and going with the flow and working with it. But I am in no way doing left, I am doing more work in my business than I ever have. But I am also having more fun in my business than I ever have. Because I'm getting to nurture new team members and watch them learn and watch them grow and watch them succeed. I gave feedback on something that one of the women on my team put together last night, and I love to do loom video feedbacks. And I started the video by saying, I was so excited when I opened this because this is so much better than anything I would have put together. And it was the truth, it really was so much better than anything I would have done. And that's what you want. Like you want to hire people who are better than you at what they do. That's why you've hired them so that they can help you create, ultimately a much better work product at the end of the day and better serve your clients. Reach.

Oh, all of that. And I love what you're saying though, too about like you're working so much. But it feels different. Because it when you hear about, you know, burnout, work life balance all of these things, everybody immediately ties it to, oh, there's this magic number, if I could just work X number of hours a week. And it's like, that has absolutely nothing to do with it at all. Like you sound and seem so much more fulfilled now, working a ton. Then because you're driving the ship and you're seeing the impact and you're leading the team. And in you know, it's not always going to be like this, right? Like this is that messy middle. And before you know it, you're going to be to a place where you're working with just as many companies you're making just as much of an impact. But you're not having to do all the things you're doing right now to set yourself up for success you'll be you'll be relaxing a little bit more. So when you get to that point that way. When you get to that point, and we worked out perfectly to write and knowing in this season of life right now, there's not a lot of stuff going on outside of our work lives, right and you realizing like this is the perfect timing, this is the perfect time for you to buckle down and get set up for yourself and for your future self is going to thank you for that. So that time is coming right like you're going to have more space and what is that going to look like for you? How do you plan to continue to grow this company when you're not having to be bogged down?

I don't know That's a great question.

I mean, like, whatdo you do with it?

Can I keep working? Maybe I'll take a vacation I hear those are really nice. I, I mean, ultimately, I want us as an agency and as a business to be the go to, for celebrities, influencers, business personalities, like, as I like to love them together, people who want to get into this space and cannot do it wrong, like it has to be right the first time. And that tends to be who we're working with. And I want us as more and more people are getting into this space, and at that level, that they come and work with us, and we help them to success. And I love working with those people, they have really fun, innovative projects and products that they're working on, you know, like, they're, again, no shade to anyone listening to this, but they're not creating, you know, here's how I became a copywriter. And here's how you make 10k a week. So those are great programs, they really are they are necessary to help people get their businesses off the ground. But these people who have like, really wild stories that have catapulted them to a different level, are creating projects that have very different and much deeper impacts, because they have the audience and the budget to do so. So like I want those projects that are just like the ones that are just gonna make a big difference in the world. One did like like, big, broad thought outside of the box different year.

So tied to the impact. And I love that question. You know, as you were starting your business, as you were going down this road, and you reached out to me about speaking support, I'd love to hear what did what was that transition, like from being the person behind the scenes in somebody else's company, to now starting your own business, being the CEO of this whole new brand? Why Why was speaking something that was going to be important for you? A couple of things. Number one, I, as someone who has previously been an employee and part of these bigger brands, as an employee, you are in service of that bigger brand, but which is the same thing that I expect.

Now, if my employees and my team like it's, it is not so much about them, although at some times it is but you know, it's in service of what's the best for the company. And I as a CEO, have a fiduciary responsibility to the business and to my employees to ensure the health of the business and make sure every decision is for that. And when I was working for these bigger brands, they did too. So it wasn't about me and my success. It was about the leader success as it should have been. So despite having this experience, and this expertise, I had been very behind the scenes, nobody knew who I was, like the industry's best kept secret. And that was fine.

You know, like truly that was totally fine. didn't need anybody to know who I was, and fine, whatever. And now it's like, oh, I want to keep working with these people and they have no idea who I am. I need to make myself more visible. So that was why I reached out to you. I was like, I have no idea how to do this. I don't know how to get started. Help me. Please. Please let me hire you. And too, I'm in. I don't think it's been super hard for me because I've always been a performer or performer like, my entire life. I love if you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love theater and theater and music has been a massive part of my life from when I was a kid and I've always enjoyed being in front of people. I've always had a strong stage presence. I've always I like to think I'm fairly charismatic, like people tend to like me, you know, it's part of why I'm so good on sales calls like I'm just I'm good at connecting with other people and making them feel heard and making them feel, you know, special and helping to communicate information. So how can I take that skill and my gift that I have and use it to propel the business forward and educate people?

And you mentioned something earlier before we started recording this about the fact that your business, especially your business and the types of clientele that you work with He is so highly your, your leads are generated mostly by referrals. But you look at referrals very differently than most people. Can you give us a little insight there of maybe some referrals we're overlooking?

Well, referrals come from everywhere.

I had a friend of mine reach out to me a little over a year ago, and he and I went to college together. He's a voiceover actor. And he said, you know, can I just pick your brain for some marketing advice? And I said, Sure. And he had been doing a lot of cold messaging of people he had taken, you know, here's how to be a voice actor, like one of those programs, they're like, really big on cold messaging. And like, people don't always respond, like, how do I follow up with people, and I said, you know, see, if you can put them on a newsletter list, like, keep them updated on what you're doing. Let them know what type of work you're looking for. Because even if they don't, like, they don't need to hire you right now. Or they don't have the type of work you're seeking.

They might have a friend who has that type of work, you know, they might be out to dinner, and meeting their best friend's girlfriend for the first time. And she's saying, oh, you know, I work at Activision. And we're launching this game and our, you know, voice actor just dropped out at the last minute. And I'm so stressed trying to find somebody. And if you had just message that guy the other day and said, I'm looking for video game voice actor work, he might say, oh, you know what, I just got an email about this guy, let me for you do his work. Like referrals don't just come from, oh, I worked with them. And they were really great. Although that is an excellent referral channel. It's also this person messaged me and told me about this service. And I think it would be great for you. Instead, I heard that person speak, they came in and talked to my mastermind, they talked about something on Instagram, you know, like, referrals are just a method of passing your name from one person to another like that is what a referral is.

So do you know don't just think about referrals is how can I do a good job? And have people tell other people to hire me, it's how can I be showing up and use that as a way to propel my business forward through word of mouth?

So while you just planted that seed for us, I want to help you get your referrals right now. So for our listeners right now, who are listening, where can we put your name? Where can we? What rooms do you want to be in? What clients do you want to work with? What stages do you want to be on? How can we give you the referrals? I mean, all of them, I want to go hang out everywhere. I love connecting with people, and I am very much of the mindset that no person is too small. You know, you never know who knows somebody who works for somebody else. But I think I mean, I don't even know just just put me wherever I I'm open to all opportunities that if it's not the right fit, I will tell you by Yeah, I'll go anywhere.

No, you're the best. Alright, Andre, thank you so much for just sharing your experience with us. Because I know so many business owners are currently in that behind the scenes role, right? And they feel like going out on their own is too scary. They won't be able to get new clients and be in front of people in New. You know, being that light of the light at the end of the tunnel and sharing with us what your journey has looked like, how you've been able to, you know, come out from being the best kept secret to now be this person that experts are seeking out to bring into their company and in guide these launches with success. How can we connect with you? Where do we go hang out with you tell us all the things because I know our listeners are going to want to learn more.
