145: Scale from the Stage with Virtual VIP Days (ft. Jordan Gill)

Ep 145 Scale from the stage w Virtual VIP Days (ft. Jordan Gill)

Want to start speaking at more conferences, on more podcasts, or at more events...but don’t know how you can comfortably step away from your everyday work as a business owner? I’ve been there, and I completely understand being torn between the two.

The thing is, you don’t have to take on new and exciting speaking roles at the expense of the quality of your work and the value you provide for your clients. You can continue to serve your people, while also reaching a brand new audience from the stage. I have a very special guest with me on today’s episode to talk about doing just that.

If you loved this episode and it motivated you to work on more polished presentations, I’d love for you to leave a review on iTunes and tell me about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories, and tag me @jessicarasdall.

Your new (very organized) best friend

Jordan Gill is the head honcho of Systems Saved Me, which helps doers, service providers, and CEOS get clear and organized in their business models and day-to-day schedules. Her Done in a Day group program helps people create and work virtual VIP Days into their business models, freeing up their time and boosting their income.

Jordan and I covered a lot of great topics in our discussion, from what virtual VIP days can do for your business, how they can impact your speaking strategy, how they can create space for you to be present in your personal life, and more. You don’t want to miss our chat!

The origins of virtual VIP Days

The idea to start offering VIP Days in Jordan’s business came from experiencing one firsthand. After learning about sales intensives from a sales coach, she wondered if she could apply the same principles to systems. After getting the green light from her sales coach, Jordan realized that VIP Days were also well suited for her personality. She could offer this to other people, too.

“My love language is efficiency; I don’t like to repeat myself,” said Jordan. “I am a one-and-done, let’s set it and forget it kind of person.”

Jordan created a VIP Day centered around customer relationship management software (CRM) for seasonal business owners: wedding planners, tax pros, and so on. From that moment on, she was hooked.

She found that VIP Days also suited her health needs. As someone who struggles with chronic fatigue, Jordan always has to be cautious of how she spends her energy. What’s great about the efficiency of VIP Days is that it works well for people who physically can’t work a lot, or want to have more time to devote to self-care and hobbies.

And if you’re someone who’s tired of the neverending hustle culture, VIP Days may be right up your alley.

What is a virtual VIP Day?

What is a virtual VIP Day, anyway? What might that look like in your business? Jordan describes a virtual VIP Day as a 4-figure offering lasting 3 to 8 hours that helps your clients through a transformation or a process. It’s not a mentoring session or Q&A. It’s an intentional, efficient process where you help someone in a single day.

There are lots of different VIP Days that Jordan sees in her work. Strategy VIP Days, for example, might involve helping someone with a launch or a speech. Service VIP Days might involve helping a client with implementation, build a website, write a book outline, and so on. Suggestion VIP Days are similar to audits. And solution VIP Days involve coaching, such as relationship coach helping couples with communication.

What’s cool about these different types of VIP Days is that you can mix-and-match them. Jordan’s, for example, is a blend of strategy and service. She also pointed out that people can customize their VIP Days any way they want. You don’t have to be available the entire day, and you can have specific non-call days where you just hole up and work.

Can I really get everything done in a day?

That’s just one reason people hesitate to make that leap and start offering VIP Days. “What I’m doing is working well enough now, why change it? Can I really do everything I need to in one day?”

To those people on the fence, Jordan says it really comes down to managing your time well. You have to plan for scope creep, or unexpected bottlenecks, or vacation and sick time, or stop-and-start communication. There are inherent boundaries to having VIP Days.

It’s also important to remember that the structure of your VIP Days can change according to your needs! If you keep going over your scheduled hours, maybe you need to adjust and add an extra hour, for example. Take the leap, and if it doesn’t work out perfectly, it’s totally fine to make adjustments.

The best way to get VIP clients

When asked for the best ways to get VIP clients, Jordan’s top two answers are “referral partners” and “speaking or going to events.” Whether it’s virtual or in-person, events allow for quicker connections and lots of networking opportunities.

Why is that? It comes down to having great conversations. It’s a basic skill, but essential when marketing your VIP Days and selling yourself and your business. Jordan used her speaking events to test different stories on stage to see which ones sparked more client inquiries or connections with people.

It also helped that Jordan was often the only operations person in the room. If people at a conference started talking about systems, people who worked as business coaches or marketing coaches or social media coaches would direct other people to her.

That’s how Jordan “created a pipeline” for her clients when speaking: by attending these events, being a good referral partner, and knowing what her clients needed.

Create time & space for what's important

If you’re hesitant about starting to speak at events, remember that speaking engagements have been around for much longer than, say, Instagram feeds or social media ads! Speaking opportunities are based on good old-fashioned relationship building. You may not be used to it, or you may be nervous about showing up and having conversations, but the benefits are so worth it.

Offering VIP Days can create space for you to begin speaking, too. That’s what they’re all about: serving your clients with the same level of quality and care you always have, but with built-in efficiency and way more free time to devote to what matters.
