191: Podcast Summer Break

Friend, life is full of a series of seasons and some of them stretch us more than others. Some seasons cause us to have to make tough calls. For me, I’m in one of those seasons right now and so I am going to make a tough call that I didn’t plan to make. I will be pausing the production of The Speak to Scale Podcast for the summer. Listen to this episode to learn why.

If you loved this episode and it motivated you to work on more polished presentations, I’d love for you to leave a review on iTunes and tell me about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories, and tag me @jessicarasdall.

PODCAST HISTORY

I originally started this podcast as a way that I could create consistent content and stay connected with my people as I prepared for maternity leave. I wanted it to feel as if we were having personal chats each week, even if I was unplugged.

I didn’t expect it to become what it is today, having recorded nearly 200 episodes. Since I started this podcast, I have met some incredible people and have even had doors open in ways that I did not expect. I absolutely love this show, and a big part of that is because of the messages that you send to me after you listen to each episode.

WHAT’S GOING ON TODAY

As much as I enjoy The Speak to Scale Podcast, I’ve come to recognize that it’s time to take a break. I’m a homeschooling mom of two, which comes with its own struggles and trials. In addition, we’ve lost our part-time childcare, had our car stolen and crashed, put our home on the market, and begun renovations on our next home. And that’s just some of it!

There are a lot of unknowns in my life right now, as I know there are in most of our lives. One thing that I have total control over is how much work I put on my plate. And so I have decided that my plate is full and I have to make some changes, even if they’re just temporary ones.

WHAT’S NEXT

Friend, just because I’m taking a break from this show doesn’t mean that I won’t show up for you and give you bite-sized business advice that you didn’t know you needed– it will just look a little different. I’ll be hanging out in our private Speak to Scale Community, doing live streams, and chatting in the DMs. I’ll also be spending more time coaching our academy students.

Will I return to recording? I hope to! But right now, I cannot commit to a timeline. However, I can commit to showing up and connecting with you each week. Make sure to join our free Speak to Scale Community so we can stay in touch.

SURVEY

This isn’t goodbye, it’s a see ya later! I have one small favor to ask that will help me know what you all want me to talk about on our social platforms and in our community. Would you please take a few minutes to complete a super quick survey for me? It will be greatly appreciated!

Transcript for Episode 191:

When we walk through seasons that really stretch us, it usually forces us to make some tough calls in the season that I am currently walking through right now. Well, it's got me feeling like I'm a Stretch Armstrong toy, being pulled limb from Live. Today, I'm having to make a tough call that I did not plan to make. So in today's very different than usual episode, I'm taking you behind the scenes to talk about this season, what it looks like the decisions I'm making, and how that might impact you.

Welcome back to another episode of The speak to scale podcast, where we help small business owners just like you grow and scale their companies by speaking on stages, podcasts, webinars and more. I'm your host, Jessica Rasdall. And if I have not said this 100 And what 97 times by now, thank you for being here. It means more to me than you know that you show up here week after week to tune in, in devour your bite size, bit of speaking education, business motivation, and a little bit of tough love along the way. Thank you for sharing about the show for leaving reviews for popping into my DMs on Wednesday and letting me know what you thought of each episode. I appreciate you more than you know. And like I mentioned just a few minutes ago, I have been walking through quite a difficult season and my own personal life outside of the podcast and the public speaking strategist. And today I'm making the incredibly tough call that I didn't plan to make. And I'm pausing production of the speak to skill podcast for the summer.

Yes, I am taking a summer break from podcasting. So in today's very different than usual episode, I'm going to give you a sneak peek into one, what's going on in my personal and professional life right now. Yikes to why I'm making this call and how I really feel about it. Three, what's next and how you can keep connecting with me each and every week. Even during my summer break. In four, I'm going to ask a teeny tiny favor of you, friend, a friend. So if you didn't really know if you haven't heard me talk about the background of this podcast before I started the speak to scale podcast formerly known as the creative speaker podcast as a way to create consistent content and stay connected with my people is I prepared for maternity leave, as I prepared for having my now on my almost four year old son. This was my first time taking maternity leave as an entrepreneur. And I wanted a way to make it feel like you and I were having personal chats together each week. Even if I was completely unplugged for three months, as we welcomed home our son weighed. Again, I still can't believe he's almost four and how long we've been doing this show.

What I did not expect was that this podcast would become so much more than a maternity leave project. I didn't expect that I would record nearly 200 episodes, I didn't expect that I would this this show this little show that I was creating at my computer in my home office would open doors I never imagined and build the most incredible relationships. I didn't expect that the show would allow me to nurture future clients, and onboard speaking strategy Academy members who were ready and willing to put in the work, because they'd been showing up here every week, putting in those micro steps already. I have loved the show more than you know. And this is not goodbye, okay. I've loved this show so much mostly because of you, because of your messages that you send me every Wednesday in my DMs and in my email.

Thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for giving me your feedback. Thank you for sharing with your friends. And as much as I have loved this show and producing it for you week after week. It is time for me to take a little break. I need a break. And I can't believe I'm saying that out loud. But I was gonna say you have no idea how hard it is for me to say that out loud. But I feel like you do know, you know exactly how hard it is for me to sit here and say I need a break from the podcast. Now most of you already know I am a homeschooling mom of two small humans, which let's be real is a incredible blessing that we're able to do that for our kids. But it's a lot it's It's a lot

it on top of our normal day to day juggling of work, and home life and running a business. Over the last few months, we've lost our part time child care, we had our car stolen and crashed. We put our home on the market, we've begun renovations on our next home and a whole slew of other very interesting things that I just, I will not bore you with today. And I mean, this is the point where anxiety quietly re enters from stage left, if you know what I mean. There are just a lot of unknowns in my life right now. And to be very honest, it's not just my life, it's all of our lives. Well, there are so many things I cannot control.

So many unknowns, so many shifting timelines, so many unexpected hiccups that keep making their appearance. Preventing overloading my plate at work is something I do have control over. In fact, I'm the only one who can put my foot down and say, okay, my plate is full enough is enough. I need some help, or I need a break. That all falls on me. So today, this is me saying my plate is full. And I need a little break. From the very beginning, this show has been a way for me to show up consistently, and give you bite sized business advice that you maybe didn't even know you needed. Well, I may be pausing the production of this show temporarily. I'm not going to stop being here for you, for your business. And for your speaking journey.

Things are just gonna look slightly different. I don't believe that what you need the most from me right now. Or what I need to focus on the most right now is pre planned overly curated content. I just don't think that's a priority for you or I. Instead, I am choosing to spend my limited work hours meeting you where you are helping you move the needle in your business in real time. So that looks like hanging out in our private speak to skill community. That means showing up live on social platforms and chatting in my DMs with you each and every week. That looks like more time spent coaching or speaking strategy Academy students and less time spent batching content. Will they come back to recording? I hope so. But right now, I am not committing to a timeline, or stressing myself out with unrealistic expectations, I'm not going to put that pressure on myself, just to stress myself out. Instead, what I am committing to is showing up and connecting with you each and every week. And just letting that unfold. Even if it's a little less polished, a little less planned, and a whole heck of a lot less produced. I'd love for you to come along on this ride with me. Will you link arms with me in this messy middle. So while you're not going to get a notification that your favorite podcast is got a new episode every Wednesday morning. What you can do is keep learning from connecting with me.

So if you want to keep up with the latest speaking strategy tips, be the first to know when the show's back on the air. Or see what other fun things we have planned for the year ahead. Make sure if you're not already there, that you join our free speech skill community, this is certainly the best place to come hang out with me. My team will be there. I'll be there every week chatting all things life speaking and business growth, you can simply click the link in the show notes or head on over to speak to scale group.com. It's a free private community. And that's where I'm going to be dedicating my time. And also in addition to that, as always, you know, my DMs on Instagram are always open. So don't hesitate to send me a message I truly keep I feel like I'm a broken record saying thank you. But I just can't find the words to express the gratitude that I have for you. And for you tuning in to not just this episode, but every episode you have listened to. But I have a little favor to ask. Listen, friend, it's not goodbye. This is simply a See you later. But before I dip out in my awkward introvert fashion, you know, I'm always the first to lead the party. I have one tiny favor to ask of you. I want to be sure that the stuff I'm talking about in our community, on our social platforms, in our emails that all of that content is truly serving you where you are right now. Again, I don't have the time or the capacity for fluff or extra. I want to get down to the nitty gritty stuff that you need. So would you take Just a few minutes to complete a shoot super quick survey for me

super quick, super quick. This is going to help me tremendously as I'm planning, how I'm going to show up for you how I can serve you during this messy middle season, and what conversations we're going to be having inside of our group on our social platforms, and in our emails. So if you've ever listened to the show, which would be you, right now, my friend, please hit that link in the show notes or go to Jessica rasdall.com forward slash survey, and just answer a few quick questions. For me, that would truly mean the world to me. I know I've probably said this a million times, but I can't say it enough. Truly from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. Thank you for showing up here. Every single week with me, thank you for allowing me to be a tiny piece of your speaking journey. Thank you for sharing the show with your friends for leaving reviews for popping into my DMs on Wednesday and letting me know what you thought of the show. Thank you. You are the reason I've continued doing this show now for almost 200 episodes. And I need you to know you're not the reason that I'm pausing this. I'm just taking a break.

So this isn't goodbye. It's simply see you later. Now I'm going to head on over to our speak to skill community. I hope to see you there. Thanks, Brent.
