RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:
Give yourself permission to seek support
First things first? Give yourself permission to seek the support you need, my friend.
Speaking doesn’t have to be this huge, difficult endeavor that you take on alone. If you can make things easier for yourself by finding support from others, why not? You’re not taking a shortcut or doing things the easy way — you’re streamlining the process to success.
You don’t have to be completely new at speaking or “failing” in order to get help. You don’t need to be on the verge of burnout, either. (In fact, I recommend you don’t wait until you’re overcommitted and overextended to get help.)
You might be great on stage and can also benefit from a different strategy! You might have a solid speaking strategy in place but need help honing your presentation. No matter where you are in your journey, you can benefit from a little speaker support.
What your speaker journey might look like
Speaking isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing. One person’s speaking strategy won’t look exactly like someone else’s.
More importantly, one person’s speaking strategy will always evolve as they move through their speaking journey. Things won’t always go to plan. And your goals and ambitions for speaking may change! It’s part of what makes a speaking strategy unique to the speaker.
However, a typical speaker journey often follows the same steps. Or at least, at The Public Speaking Strategist, we like to outline the journey in four specific phases:
Phase 1: Laying your foundation by researching your audience, choosing speaker topics, and writing your story
Phase 2: Crafting your talk through presentation development and building slide decks
Phase 3: Marketing and sales by researching events, crafting pitches, and building a speaker webpage
Phase 4: Delivery and optimization by optimizing all your speaker workflows, so you can increase your referrals/rebookings and make real revenue
Based on our signature four-part framework, these phases reduce overwhelm and keep you focused on speaking with purpose — so that you get results for your business and for your audience through speaking.
